About us:
CALIMA is an organically growing SaaS startup based in Berlin that is committed to improving workplace safety through digital and innovative solutions. We provide user-friendly and reliable tools for companies with lone workers so that they can receive first aid as quickly as possible in an emergency. Our system is already used by over 700 companies and protects more than 6,000 employees every day. Our corporate culture is characterized by personal responsibility, honesty, ambition, innovation, and professionalism.
Your role:
As a Senior DevOps/Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our entire platform. You will be responsible for the infrastructure of a security-critical product that protects thousands of lone workers every day. In doing so, you will ensure that our systems run robustly, performantly, and with high availability.
Quality is CALIMA's top priority: we rely on EU providers (OVH and Hetzner) and operate a multi-cloud setup for maximum reliability and the best possible data protection – so that we can deliver the best possible product to our customers.
Your tasks:
- Further development of our Kubernetes infrastructure (multi-cloud, multi-AZ, zero downtime deployments)
- Maintenance and expansion of our infrastructure-as-code landscape with OpenTofu/Terraform (GitOps, private networks, databases, storage, security, monitoring, etc.)
- Setup and continuous improvement of observability (logs, metrics, traces), including dashboards
- Support for operating dedicated hosting setups for enterprise customers
- Ensuring compliance with enterprise customer requirements and ISO 27001
- Responsibility for basic infrastructure security (secrets, access concepts/IAM, image/service hardening)
- Helping to design backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for our production environments
- Participation in on-call/incident rotation (focused on stability and disaster recovery)
- Establishment of effective alerting and incident management
- Development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for automating the build, test, and deployment process—in collaboration with the Mobile & Web teams
- Documentation of processes, compliance, and architecture
What you bring with you:
- Several years of experience (4+ years) as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role in the cloud/SaaS environment
- Very good knowledge of Kubernetes ( deployment, networking, ingress, observability, scaling) and modern cloud infrastructure ( e.g., OVH, AWS, Hetzner)
- Extensive experience with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform/OpenTofu, including structuring modules and environments
- Confident use of monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Loki, or comparable solutions)
- Understanding security issues in the cloud: networks , secrets management, encryption, and secure configurations
- Experience with highly available, business-critical systems—ideally in a B2B SaaS or security-related context
- Nice to have: Experience in setting up and operating CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications and/or mobile apps
- Structured, independent, and quality-conscious approach to work with a pragmatic understanding of priorities (features vs. stability vs. tech debt)
- Enjoy working closely with developers and improving their daily lives through good platform and tooling decisions
- Very good knowledge of English and basic knowledge of German (at least A2)
What we offer you:
- Attractive compensation (market-standard salary plus performance-based bonus)
- Flexible working: Remote, hybrid, or in the office in Berlin-Kreuzberg
- High-quality equipment with Apple devices
- 100% focus on quality and stability - clear priorities, well-planned development time and fixed release cycles
- Direct responsibility and creative freedom
- Flat hierarchies and quick decisions
- Tax-free benefits such as meal allowance & vouchers
- Joint team events, such as our annual company retreat or our Christmas party
- Open and authentic corporate culture characterized by trust, respect and teamwork
- Regular feedback meetings for the best possible further development
