Berlin

About us: Who we are

CALIMA is a Berlin-based B2B SaaS startup with a mission to make workplace safety simpler, more reliable, and more effective through digital and innovative solutions. Our software helps companies with employees who work alone to get help quickly in an emergency. Today, over 500 companies with more than 4,000 employees already use our system.

We are a small, ambitious team that works to high standards of quality, taking a pragmatic and product-focused approach. We are looking for people who don’t just go through the motions, but who take ownership, contribute ideas, and actively improve our processes.

Your role:

As a working student in the Software QA & Test Automation department, you will support our team with a wide range of testing tasks for our web applications and native apps on smartphones and smartwatches. Together with our current QA working student, you will ensure that key QA processes are reliably covered and that our releases are thoroughly tested.

In this role, you’ll not only test individual features but also keep the big picture in mind: critical user journeys, real-world usage scenarios, edge cases, and specialized hardware. In addition to structured manual and exploratory testing, you’ll help us gradually automate recurring tests and make our QA processes more robust and scalable.

Your tasks:

  • You'll test releases of the CALIMA Cloud as well as our apps for iOS & watchOS, Android & wearOS
  • You conduct structured exploratory tests along critical user journeys
  • You identify bugs, edge cases, and usability issues and document them clearly and comprehensively
  • You will assist with the design, creation, and maintenance of test cases, test suites, and test runs in our test management tool
  • You will assist with reproducing, documenting, and tracking bugs
  • You think beyond individual tickets and see the big picture
  • Together with our current QA student, you will be responsible for key QA processes
  • You identify recurring manual tests that are suitable for automation and assist in developing automated smoke, regression, or end-to-end tests
  • You’ll contribute your own ideas on how we can ensure quality within the team sooner, more efficiently, and more systematically

Role requirements: what you need to succeed

  • You are enrolled for at least two more semesters
  • You already have practical experience testing web apps or mobile apps
  • You work in a structured manner and have high standards for quality
  • You can quickly get the hang of new features, processes, and tools
  • You don't just think in terms of individual test cases, but in terms of real-world usage scenarios and release risks
  • You enjoy working in a pragmatic, independent, and hands-on manner
  • You communicate clearly and precisely in German and English
  • You're interested in automating recurring QA processes and systematically improving manual testing

Nice to have

  • Initial experience with test automation in a QA context, e.g., with Playwright, Cypress, Appium, or similar tools
  • Initial experience in a startup or a similarly dynamic work environment
  • Experience with test management tools such as Qase, TestRail, or similar tools
  • Experience with clear bug documentation and structured bug-tracking processes

What we offer you

  • Above-average remuneration
  • Flexible working hours (10–20 hours per week)
  • Hybrid work: up to 50% remote work, otherwise on-site at our office in Berlin
  • A high degree of personal responsibility and creative freedom
  • Direct collaboration with an experienced tech team
  • The opportunity to actively help shape QA processes and test automation
